Alberta Wheat Commission Welcomes New General Manager

The Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) is pleased to announce that Tom Steve will be joining the organization as the new General Manager.

“Tom has an extensive background in agriculture and many years of experience working directly with growers, and grower elected Boards,” says Kent Erickson, Chair of the AWC. “His agriculture background and previous experience with providing value to growers make him an excellent fit for this role at AWC.”

Steve began his career in broadcast journalism, but moved into government where he served as Director of Communications to the Premier of Saskatchewan and Cabinet Press Secretary. He spent over a decade working with United Grain Growers and Agricore United, followed by six years at Viterra in various roles in Communications, Corporate Affairs and Global Customer Relations. More recently, Steve spent the past seven months working with the newly formed Saskatchewan Wheat and Barley Commission’s, directing the activities of these two organizations to support their goals and objectives.

When he starts with AWC in early June, Steve looks forward to building on the organization’s strategic plan and focusing on enhancing Alberta’s wheat industry.

“AWC has strong programs and strategic goals in place and I look forward to building on these to ensure Alberta’s wheat growers remain profitable,” says Steve. “I will also promote strong collaboration with the wheat commissions in Saskatchewan and Manitoba to ensure we maximize grower check-off dollars and opportunities for growth.”
