Bayer CropScience Will Open New Wheat Breeding Centre

There was a ground breaking ceremony this week near Saskatoon.

Bayer CropScience broke ground on its new Wheat Breeding Centre, just 25 minutes Southwest of the city in the RM of Montrose.

Dr. Marcus Weidler the Canadian Seeds Operation Manager at Bayer CropScience says Canada and Saskatchewan are key markets for the company

He says the new centre allows them to consolidate their current wheat program:

"At the moment it is split between two sides, one at Innovation Place at the University and the second one we have a shop in the city.   Right now we have to consolidate our efforts and more importantly expand our program to develop new very high performing wheat products for the Canadian growers."

The first phase of the new facility is expected to be finished for July 2015 and will include labs, office spaces, equipment and seed storage, and workshops.
