Celebrating Ontario food and farming with Breakfast on the Farm

Come for great food and the chance to have your questions answered by Ontario’s farmers.

(Tecumseh) – With half of the 2,000 complimentary tickets already reserved, time is running out to book spots for the 2015 Breakfast on the Farm event.

The Breakfast on the Farm program was launched in Ontario in 2013 with more than 2,000 attendees to the first event. It provides a unique opportunity for farmers and non‐farming Ontarians to have a conversation about food and farming. It gives Ontarians the chance to visit a real, working farm, provides a showcase for agriculture and gives non-farmers the opportunity to have their questions answered by real farmers.

This year’s event is taking place at Hylander Farms in Tecumseh. Owned and operated by Brian Hyland, his wife Rina, son Matthew and parents Walter and Muriel, Hylander Farms is a beef, grain and veal farm. Their beef cattle are raised for local buyers of all kinds, including butcher shops and direct-from-the-farm individual sales.

Visitors to the farm will receive a complimentary all-Ontario breakfast and farm tour. Guests will meet the farm family, see the animals, and have a chance to see farm equipment, a grain elevator and explore the many interactive displays that will be on-site.    The Essex Federation of Agriculture is assisting with event coordination.

This event will run from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, with breakfast being served until 11:30 a.m. The farm tours wrap up by 1:00 p.m. It is a free event, though preregistration is required. The first 2,000 visitors are guaranteed breakfast.

Farm & Food Care is again looking for those willing to share their time and passion for local food. Approximately 80 people are needed to run the event -  60 volunteers have signed up to date.

The event is supported by many national, provincial and regional farm organizations and agri-businesses including Burnbrae Farms, Dairy Farmers of Ontario, Dow AgroSciences, Egg Farmers of Ontario, Foodland Ontario and L.H. Gray.
