Controlling Round-Up Ready Corn In A Re-Plant Situation

Apr 24, 2014

We have had at least 1 issue on 2014 corn in Burke Co. where the producer re-planted. The attempt to destroy surviving population of the initial planting was not as successful as desired. During the process of evaluating the effectiveness of the herbicide treatment I spoke to Dr. Eric Prostko, UGA Extension Weed Scientist. He shared the following pictures that compare his favorite choice of herbicide to use in replant situations (Select Max) with the use of paraquat plus atrazine. The pictures speak for themselves. Dr. Prostko’s comments were that “…you just can not count on paraquat being effective in controlling RR Corn in replant situations”. If you have questions or comments for me on this, please let me know.
