Document those record high yields this year!

Corn continues to look very good in many part of the state, with some high yields forecasted again this year. This year could be a good one to enter a top performing field in the Five Acre Corn Club. The final registration deadline of August 1 is approaching.

Rules and entry forms for the 2015 Five Ace Corn Club program have been posted on our Five Acre Corn Club site. Registration is $40 after July 1 until August 1. Rules are similar to those in previous years. This program is a collaboration between Penn State and the Pennsylvania Corn Growers Association (PCGA). Registration will be handled this year by PCGA. To register, complete the corn club entry form and send a check to PCGA at the address on the form. Registration this year will be by check only.

The Corn Club has provided us insights into corn management under high yielding conditions in our state and we have documented widespread use of no-till, sidedressing, and higher plant populations in these fields. Consider signing up if you haven’t participated before- it’s a good way to learn a bit more about high yielding corn production in Pennsylvania and to help us document how corn yields are increasing in the state.
