Foal Carcass Discarded on Michigan Roadside

Mar 12, 2015
After law enforcement personnel discovered the remains of a foal discarded on a Michigan roadside, local humane authorities are seeking those responsible for the animal.

Wendy Welch, spokeswoman for the Humane Society of Huron Valley, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, said law enforcement authorities contacted the organization after a foal's carcass was found along a road in Pittsfield Township on March 5. The animal had been dead for a few days. Welch said.

“The foal was very young—about 2 weeks old and was very thin,” Welch said.

The foal might have been a Thoroughbred or another racing breed, she said.

Results of a necropsy are pending, Welch said.

Meanwhile, anyone with information about the incident should call the Humane Society of Huron Valley’s Cruelty and Rescue hotline at 734/661-3512.
