Growers Hire New Communications Director

A communications professional with 35 years experience in media, public relations and advertising is joining the Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers (MPSG) to develop and manage outreach initiatives during International Year of Pulses 2016.

Glen Kirby spent more than two decades with the CBC , CTV and other broadcasters before starting his own consulting company. Since 2000, Kirby Communications has been creating communications tools and strategies for clients across Canada including businesses, governments and not-for-profits.

“We are poised for significant growth and exciting new collaborations, driven in-part by the United Nations declaring 2016 as the International Year of Pulses,” says Francois Labelle, MPSG Executive Director. “Solid communications with growers and consumers will be essential, and Glen brings a wealth of expertise to these discussions.”

In addition to managing communications between producers, media and the public, Kirby will also identify and develop new community partnerships. He replaces Roxanne Lewko, on-leave until 2017.

“Pulses and soybeans are finding fresh markets thanks to their nutritional value and versatility,” says Kirby. “I’m excited for the opportunity to help increase awareness about the research, cultivation and consumption of these food crops.”
