Ontario Farmers Plan To Plant Significantly More Corn This Year

The agency says Canadian farmers intend to plant more wheat and corn this year but slightly less soybeans.
 
According to what farmers are telling Statscan, they expect to plant 24 point 8 million acres of wheat this year.
 
That’s an increase of 3 point 9 per cent from a year ago.
 
The agency has been told farmers expect to plant 3 point 3 million acres of corn for grain this year.
 
That’s a 6 point 2 per cent increase.
 
In Ontario, farmers anticipate planting 2 point 1 million acres of corn – up 11 point 5 per cent from 2014.
 
And Statscan says 5 point 4 million acres of soybeans are expected to be planted in Canada this year – down 3 point 4 per cent from last year’s record 5 point 6 million.
 
Ontario farmers intend to seed 2 point 9 million acres of soybeans, down 6 point 5 per cent from last year.
 
Statscan says that according to industry reports, seeding conditions are seen to be favourable overall this year after two years of late seedings.
