Oregon Horse Drowns on Beach

Sep 30, 2014
A horse is dead after falling and drowning on an Oregon beach.

Richard Walkoski, spokesman from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Communications and Research Division, said a group of riders were on the beach near Bullards Beach State Park, in Bandon, on Sept. 26, when one of the horses fell and was unable to rise.

“The horse was reportedly an older animal that was in poor health, although this was not confirmed,” Walkoski said. “The horse fell close enough to the ocean that the surf washed (the animal) into the water and it drowned.”

The owner later removed the animal from the beach, Walkoski said.
