Oregon Horse Herd Seized

Feb 27, 2015
Authorities have seized nearly 40 allegedly maltreated horses from a farm in Dallas, Oregon.

Poke County, Oregon, Sheriff's Department Lieutenant Jeff Isham said deputies responded to a call about horses that appeared to be maltreated on Jan. 30. Acting on a warrant, deputies subsequently discovered 38 horses, along with several goats and birds, residing on property owned by Monica Foster, he said. All the live animals were allegedly maltreated, Isham said, and a dead horse's carcass was also found on the property.

“Some of the horses were in better shape than others,” Isham said. “All of the horses needed veterinary and farrier care and had worming issues.”

On Feb. 18, law enforcement personnel seized the live animals in place, Isham said.

“There were so many animals that it was easier to leave them where they were,” he said.

Volunteer members of the Sheriff's Mounted Posse are providing care for the animals, Isham said.
