South Dakota Pasture Rental Rates For 2015

Aug 04, 2015

By Shannon Sand

As of June nearly 40% of South Dakota’s agricultural land is in some sort of lease arrangement. Seventy five percent of South Dakota land renters are involved in one or more cash leases for agricultural land. Leasing land can be particularly important to beginning producers as leasing may initially be a more feasible option for a beginning producer.

Figure 1 shows the average cash rental rate of South Dakota for non-irrigated cropland, hayland, and rangeland by region. The figure shows there is a wide variation in the average price depending upon the region of South Dakota one lives in. Producers in the South Eastern part of the state pay around three times as much to rent range land as a producer in the South West might.
