USPOULTRY Releases Third Video In Series Highlighting Poultry And Egg Farm Environmental Stewardship

U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY) is releasing a third video in
a series highlighting environmental stewardship on poultry and egg farms. The video features one of USPOULTRY’s 2015 Family Farm Environmental Excellence Award winners, Endless View Farm of Broadway, Va.

Endless View Farm is owned and operated by Stephen and Jackie Lohr. The farm consists of 57 owned acres and 250 rented acres on which broilers, 90 brood cows, 100 sheep and four sows are raised. The  Lohrs raise chickens for Pilgrim’s, with a capacity of 107,000 birds per flock at a target weight of 8.5 pounds.

After losing two poultry houses to a fire in 2011, the Lohrs rebuilt two new poultry houses with state-ofthe-art technology that are designed with energy and efficiency in mind. The Lohrs maintain a nutrient management plan for litter management that uses crop rotation and pasture management to control
nutrients in the soil. Regularly collected soil samples monitor nutrient levels to ensure the poultry litter is not over applied.

“We are proud of the work we do on our farm. It is how we make our living, and we make every effort to incorporate the best environmental management practices possible,” said Stephen Lohr, Endless ViewFarm.

“USPOULTRY and our members know the importance of exemplary environmental stewardship. We are pleased to be able to provide this video series highlighting the environmental efforts of our family farmers,” commented John Starkey, USPOULTRY president.
