“As a backdrop in 2014, we’ve seen a downward move in cotton prices this growing season,” Robinson said. “When farmers planted their crops, they were in the 80-cent per pound range. In May, the December contract hit 84 cents and has declined ever since. A lot of that decline was associated with improved growing conditions, rain out west and a lot of dryland regions that germinated and caught speculative traders by surprise.”
