Video: Giving Thanks for our Farmers during Ontario Agriculture Week

Oct 08, 2015

In the Legislature this week, John Vanthof (MPP Timiskaming-Cochrane) shared the following message to celebrate the farming community’s successes, and highlight their current issues, during Ontario Agriculture Week:  The agri-food sector in Ontario is a $34-billion business, second only to the auto sector—and I agree with the notable comment from the president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Don McCabe, who said “It’s number one because you can’t eat cars.”

In Ontario, we produce a myriad of products, from milk to bok choy and ginseng. There are over 200 products, and we grow them all. We have some of the highest safety standards in the world, and some of the strictest regulations possible. Regulations aren’t a bad thing if they make sense, because they assure people’s safety. In Ontario, we commit to food safety every day.
