Video: Young farmers speak to supply management vs subsidies in other countries

Aug 18, 2015

Some argue in favour of dismantling supply management. The belief it would lead to lower prices at the store is based on the false premise that farmers control the retail price of milk when in reality, retailers have always set the retail price of milk.  As these farmers say, they receive no government subsidies so Canadian consumers only pay for the milk they drink. On the other hand, consumers in other countries subsidize their dairy industry so they pay twice – once through their taxes and again at the grocery store.
