Corporate History

Farms.com was one of the original agriculture companies on the Internet.  Farms.com was named, more than once, as the Best of the Web for agriculture by Forbes Magazine.  More than 10 years later, Farms.com continues to be a leader in online agriculture, launching web 2.0 version of website -- enabling user personalization and customization.

Farms.com was launched in January 1995, soon after it was possible to view images on the Internet.  In 1997, Farms.com became a “true” business venture.  Soon after, in 1998, the online business eHarvest.com was founded.  In 2000, Farms.com & eHarvest.com merged to create the market powerhouse that it is today Farms.com.

2001
Farms.com acquires PigCHAMP Inc. PigCHAMP Inc. is a global leader in providing software and knowledge services to the pork industry.  Today, the Care brand Windows-based software programs are currently setting new standards for pork production record keeping and data analysis.

2002
PigCHAMP acquires PigTales, pigIT, & PorkLine – strengthening PigChamp's position in the marketplace.

2003
JobHog & Farms.com’s AgCareers.com join forces, creating the leading online career site and human resources service provider for the agriculture, food, natural resources and biotechnology industries.  AgCareers currently welcomes more than 1 million page views each month.

2004
Farms.com launches Risk Management, based on feedback from producers that they need help with expertise in the commodity markets. Farms.com Risk Management provides commodity risk management products and consulting services to producers and agribusiness clients across North America.

2004
Farms.com acquires AgFreight.com the leading online freight matching service for shippers and carriers in the bulk agriculture commodities industry.  The AgFreight.com website has a large searchable database of load listings and is used by hundreds of shippers and truckers across North America.

2005
Farms.com introduces DoubleClick Banner Ad Technology to the Farms.com portal to offer advertisers sophisticated target market opportunities.  Online banner ads can be programmed to target the Farms.com website portal visitor by city, state, and zip code level, as well as by their sector interest (crop, livestock, etc)

Farms.com also acquires a 2000-acre farm in Port Dover, Ontario -- a cash crop operation growing corn, identity preserved soybeans, and winter wheat.  Today, the Port Dover operation continues as an operating farm, and is also well positioned for real estate and alternative energy farming opportunities.

2006
Farms.com acquires LandMarketer.com which delivers effective farm property marketing. Farmland is a valuable commodity, on behalf of Real Estate Agent members; the website is dedicated to promoting and showcasing farm and rural properties -- connecting farm buyers with farm sellers.

Farms.com acquires AgriVille.com -- a leading agriculture information website with a very active community of Western Canadian farmer and agribusiness users.

Finally, Farms.com also acquires AgriFood Innovations -- a leader in providing strategic consulting, online branding/marketing, website and database development services, as well as information technology and specialized programming.

2007
Farms.com focuses on core business offerings; selling its M & F Trading business unit.  This transaction enables Farms.com to redirect resources to our core strengths and to executing a technology innovation strategy.

Farms.com rebrands LandMarketer.com as Real Estate.Farms.com begins market expansion.

2008
Farms.com is once again a leader in online agriculture, launching web 2.0 version of the Farms.com portal website, enabling user personalization and customization.
