IMCI is proud to have had nearly 600 women from agriculture (575 to be exact) attend the AWC WEST in Calgary April 6&7, 2015. Delegates came from New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Illinois and California to be inspired, motivated, learn and network. Twenty speakers from across North America spoke to the issues and challenges they overcame on the way to success and provided the delegates with the tools to do the same. The audience included producers, ranchers, entrepreneurs, small business owners, representatives from grower associations and corporate agri-business. One month prior to the conference we had approximately 425 followers on Twitter, today 825 women are following AWC and networking amongst themselves. We ranked 4th with our hashtag on twitter on Tuesday afternoon! Conclusion – women can and do network.

This is one of the first and largest one-of-a-kind leadership conferences for women in agriculture in Canada. At the conference, The Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council announced a research project called Supporting the Advancement of Women in Agriculture (SAWA) to examine and address critical barriers to advancement that women face in the agricultural industry. Comments since the conference have been overwhelming with positive feedback on all aspects of the conference, with some great ideas and suggestions to make the next AWC a greater success.
