Marketing Lambs

With winter lambs coming to market now, it’s a good idea to take a look at how to market those lambs. Sue Hosford is a sheep industry specialist with Alberta Agriculture out of Camrose.

She says the only thing normal about the lamb industry is that it changes every year, meaning producers need to be ready for the challenges and the opportunities. Hosford says after four years of good prices and record prices in 2011, high market prices have done exactly what you might expect, which is go down. Adding to producers’ challenges is the increased cost of feed, in particular barley.

That means lamb producers are going to have to keep a close eye on their production costs. Sue Hosford spoke with our Caitlynn Reesor.
