Ontario Spring Cereal Harvest Nears Completion

The spring cereals harvest in Ontario was winding down as favourable weather conditions allowed producers to make significant combining progress, according to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs department's field crop update for the week ended August 26, but only released late on August 27.

Good oat and barley yields from the cereal harvest were being reported. Spring wheat continues to be below or only at average yields in 2010 and generally the later harvested wheat has higher fusarium levels, the report said.

Ontario's canola harvest was over 50% complete with good seed quality. Yields have been above average to phenomenal with some growers reporting their highest yields ever, the report said.

Early planted corn fields in Ontario were advancing quickly with the harvest of silage corn underway in some regions of the province, the report said.

Video: Farm Health Guardian | Digital Biosecurity in Real Time

Disease risk, biosecurity, and real-time monitoring continue to be major topics across the pork industry. In this episode of Swine Web Industry Perspectives, presented by Farm Health Guardian, we discuss how digital biosecurity and real-time data are changing the way producers think about herd protection, people movement, and operational decision-making.

The conversation explores:

disease risk in modern pork production,

the impact of people movement on biosecurity,

the importance of real-time monitoring,

digital biosecurity technology,

and how Farm Health Guardian developed tools designed to support modern swine operations.

As the industry continues focusing on prevention, preparedness, and operational efficiency, connected technologies and actionable data are becoming increasingly important parts of modern herd health management.
