Ontario Boosting Goat Cheese Industry In Lindsay

A Kawartha Lakes dairy is expanding its operations to create jobs and build new opportunities for local dairy farmers.

Through support from the Rural Economic Development Program, Mariposa Dairy is making important improvements to its business in Lindsay to help meet the growing demand for its products. Refurbishing and modernizing their existing food processing facility to accommodate more packaging flexibility, higher processing speeds, and better materials handling capacity will help expand their production line of goat cheeses.

This expansion will create up to 21 news jobs, retain more than 50 positions, support local farmers and strengthen the Kawartha Lakes region.

A strong agri-food industry is part of the Open Ontario plan to create jobs and opportunities that will boost the province's economy.

The Ontario government is investing $208,000 in the expansion of the Mariposa Dairy.

Ontario's food processing industry was the third largest employer of its kind in North America in 2008. The industry generated $32.3 billion in revenue from goods manufactured in Ontario in 2007.

Since 2003, Ontario has invested nearly $104 million in 285 projects through the Rural Economic Development Program and generated more than $781 million in new economic activity.
