USDA : Weekly Export Sales Report

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period January 15-21, 2010.

Wheat:  Net sales of 660,700 metric tons for delivery in 2009/10 were down 20 percent from the previous week, but up 80 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Nigeria (113,000 MT), Japan (78,800 MT), Mexico (78,200 MT), South Korea (75,600 MT), Morocco (51,300 MT), China (50,000 MT), and Thailand (39,000 MT).  Decreases were reported for Italy (20,000 MT).  Net sales of 28,500 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were mainly for Italy (20,000 MT).  Exports of 424,800 MT were up 34 percent from the previous week and 48 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (59,700 MT), Iraq (52,500 MT), Nigeria (50,200 MT), the Philippines (50,100 MT), and Chile (38,500 MT).  

Corn:  Net sales of 902,300 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 44 percent from the previous week, but up 17 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for unknown destinations (278,000 MT), South Korea (186,300 MT), Egypt (110,300 MT, including 50,300 MT switched from unknown destinations), Japan (87,900 MT, including 24,600 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 7,200 MT), Mexico (71,600 MT), Colombia (49,100 MT), and Canada (21,300 MT).  There were no sales reported for delivery in 2010/11.  Exports of 531,800 MT were down 36 percent from the previous week and 33 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (215,500 MT), Mexico (111,800 MT), Egypt (50,300 MT), Taiwan (39,900 MT), Canada (35,500 MT), and Colombia (31,200 MT). 

Barley: Net sales of 200 MT were for Taiwan.  There were no exports reported during the week.

Sorghum:  Net sales of 221,400 MT--a marketing-year high--were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (150,400 MT), Japan (35,800 MT), and unknown destinations (35,200 MT).  Exports of 68,700 MT were to Mexico (41,000 MT) and Japan (27,600 MT).

Rice:  Net sales of 101,800 MT were up 85 percent from the previous week and 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Japan (26,600 MT), Turkey (17,500 MT), Mexico (14,800 MT), El Salvador (9,000 MT), and Saudi Arabia (7,100 MT). Exports of 21,900 MT were down 69 percent from the previous week and 68 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (6,400 MT), Canada (3,600 MT), Honduras (2,200 MT), Jordan (1,900 MT), and Israel (1,300 MT)

Soybeans:  Net sales of 673,500 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 28 percent from the previous week and 16 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for China (280,800 MT, including 55,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 18,300 MT), Spain (126,200 MT, including 114,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Japan (73,600 MT, including 36,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Mexico (60,100 MT), the Netherlands (55,900 MT, including 70,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 14,100 MT), and Indonesia (47,200 MT, including 1,000 MT switched from unknown destinations).  Decreases were reported for Cuba (34,500 MT), Italy (24,700 MT), and Morocco (5,500 MT).  Net sales of 183,600 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were reported for China (175,000 MT) and Japan (8,600 MT).  Exports of 1,394,100 MT were down 10 percent from the previous week and 3 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (875,400 MT), Spain (126,200 MT), Taiwan (80,800 MT), Japan (76,300 MT), the Netherlands (55,900 MT), and Mexico (54,900 MT).

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 254,100 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 39 percent from the previous week and 9 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for the Philippines (96,900 MT), Vietnam (46,400 MT, including 37,500 MT switched from unknown destinations), Latvia (26,400 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Ecuador (25,000 MT), and Egypt (22,500 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (68,800 MT), Mexico (7,000 MT), and the French West Indies (4,100 MT).  Net sales of 14,100 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were mainly for Mexico.  Exports of 272,600 MT were down 4 percent from the previous week and 5 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Vietnam (47,900 MT), the Philippines (47,800 MT), Latvia (26,400 MT), Cuba (26,200 MT), and Mexico (16,800 MT).  

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 46,000 MT for delivery in 2009/10 resulted as increases for Malaysia (27,100 MT, including 23,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Peru (23,900 MT, including 2,700 MT switched from unknown destinations), Vietnam (12,000 MT, switched from unknown destinations), South Korea (10,000 MT), and Tunisia (9,000 MT, switched from unknown destinations), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (50,200 MT).  There were no sales reported for delivery in 2010/11.  Exports of 52,400 MT were down 42 percent from the previous week, but up 33 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Malaysia (23,100 MT), Vietnam (12,000 MT), Tunisia (9,000 MT), and Morocco (3,500 MT).  

Cotton:  Net Upland sales of 487,500 running bales for delivery in 2009/10--a marketing-year high--were up 52 percent from the previous week and 49 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (285,300 RB), Turkey (34,700 RB), Vietnam (28,600 RB), Taiwan (25,400 RB), and Indonesia (23,300 RB).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (600 RB), Guatemala (600 RB), and Colombia (400 RB).  Net sales of 5,300 RB for delivery in 2010/11 were for Vietnam.  Exports of 149,500 RB were down 24 percent from the previous week and 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (56,800 RB), Turkey (29,400 RB), Mexico (18,100 RB), Thailand (10,300 RB), and Vietnam (8,900 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 10,200 RB were down 10 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for China (2,900 RB, including 900 RB switched from unknown destinations), Taiwan (2,500 RB), Indonesia (1,900 RB), and India (1,000 RB).  There were no sales reported for delivery in 2010/11.  Exports of 26,600 RB were up 3 percent from the previous week, but down 15 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were India (7,700 RB), Pakistan (6,100 RB), China (5,000 RB), South Korea (2,600 RB), and Turkey (1,800 RB).

Hides and Skins: Net sales of 422,200 pieces were reported for delivery in 2010, down 2 percent from the previous week.  Whole cattle hide sales of 395,600 pieces were primarily for China (223,200 pieces), South Korea (77,800 pieces), Mexico (34,000 pieces), Taiwan (18,500 pieces), and Hong Kong (10,800 pieces).  Exports of 401,500 pieces were up 6 percent from the previous week.  Whole cattle hide exports of 394,900 pieces were primarily to China (193,300 pieces), South Korea (100,100 pieces), Taiwan (47,000 pieces), Thailand (16,400 pieces), Mexico (16,200 pieces), and Japan (7,600 pieces).

Net sales of 108,500 wet blues for delivery in 2010 were down 15 percent from the previous week.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (32,600 grain splits and 9,800 unsplit), Mexico (24,900 grain splits and 3,900 unsplit), Vietnam (16,100 unsplit), and Italy (10,000 unsplit).  Exports of 130,400 hides were primarily for China (43,700 unsplit and 7,100 grain splits), Mexico (23,700 grain splits and 7,900 unsplit), Italy (12,100 unsplit), Taiwan (5,600 unsplit), and Thailand (5,500 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 1,721,800 pounds were primarily for South Korea (798,000 pounds), Hong Kong (782,500 pounds), and Taiwan (53,000 pounds).  Exports of 563,300 pounds were for Italy (214,200 pounds), China (170,800 pounds), South Korea (90,000 pounds), and Taiwan (88,400 pounds).  

Beef: Net sales of 13,700 MT for delivery in 2010 were primarily for Mexico (3,900 MT), Vietnam (3,600 MT), South Korea (2,600 MT), Canada (1,400 MT), and Taiwan (1,100 MT).  Exports of 9,800 MT were primarily to Mexico (3,000 MT), South Korea (1,400 MT), Canada (1,400 MT), Vietnam (1,400 MT), and Japan (1,100 MT).
