FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 4, 2006

Doug Maus, President of Farms.com Ltd. Passes Suddenly.

J. Douglas Maus, 1956 – 2006

Passed away on November 4, 2006, after suffering a heart attack in London, Ontario in his 51st year.

Doug was a very passionate individual who lived each day to its fullest. He was a devoted family man, loyal friend to many, a successful entrepreneur and a life long athlete.

Family – Doug loved his family more than anything. Doug will be deeply missed by his children, Nicole, Stephanie, Rachel and Riley. Loved son to Hugh and Lil Maus. Dear brother to Bob and Glenyce and David all of Ayr, Ontario. He will be sadly missed by Maureen, Wendy, several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Doug was born and raised on the family farm in Ayr, Ontario where he lived until he moved to London, Ontario in the 1980’s.

Doug has many dear friends who will miss him, he was always there to listen, help when he could and was generous with his time, advice and support.

Doug was a successful, visionary entrepreneur. He founded M& F Livestock which has evolved into Farms.com Ltd. where he was the President and Chief Executive Officer for the past 5 years. During his leadership, the company has grown rapidly to have 100 employees with offices across North America and to have thousands of customers which include most of the largest agriculture and food companies in the world. He was a respected industry leader with an extensive list of friendly business relationships. He was often called upon to share his thoughts and experience, speaking at industry events. One of Doug’s strengths was his leadership skills and he genuinely liked and trusted people – he did a great job of developing his employees and making them feel confident. Doug was a graduate of the University of Western Ontario where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History.

Doug was a life long athlete, he played sports like he lived his life – combining his physical abilities and skills with a thoughtful approach to the game – he liked to win but he loved to play, compete and be with his team mates even more. Doug played hockey from an early age and continued playing a couple times a week with a close knit group of friends. Doug suffered his heart attack during his weekly hockey game with his friends.

Doug enjoyed golfing even though with his busy lifestyle he never got out as often as he liked. He was fortunate to travel across North America and had the opportunity to play on numerous championship courses with business associates and at industry events. His friends will tell you he was a good golfer and that everyone enjoyed the good natured discussions that took place during the round. He also loved baseball, playing most of his life and only retiring from the company slow pitch team a few years ago.

Doug will be deeply missed by his family, friends, employees, business associates and teammates.

Friends will be received at the Ayr Chapel, Wm Kipp Funeral Home, 183 Northumberland Street, Ayr on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Complete funeral service will be held at Knox United Church (92 Northumberland Street) Ayr on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Reverend Fred Hagle officiating. Cremation with interment, Ayr Cemetery. Donations in Doug's name to a new Defibrillator Program would be appreciated (cheques accepted at the funeral home).
