The Case 1070 tests at 91 and 108 horsepower (drawbar and PTO). More than 7,500 tractors were produced from 1970 to 1978. Fans of the brand call this model “nearly indestructible,” and I’m inclined to agree!

These tractors were advertised as "Jet-Age" tractors and the styling matches the slogan. While the cab isn't luxurious by modern standards, it was a big selling point when the tractor was first produced.

The beauty of the Case 1070 is in the heavy-duty engine and transmission. Like other tractor manufacturers, Case was in a quest for power in the 1970s. In order to quickly expand its product line, Case used the same engine and transmission in multiple models. The engine and transmission in the 1070 were used in larger tractors in the series as well as in this model.

The 7.4L 6-cylinder diesel engine in the Case 1070 is capable of churning out around 200 horsepower. In this model, however, it's de-tuned to around 100 horsepower. This design is actually excellent news for the longevity of the tractor.

Instead of being pushed to maximum capacity, the engine in the Case 1070 lumbers along without being overworked. I've found the Case 1070 to be very reliable!

When buying one, look for a tractor with dual remote hydraulics. This tractor was offered with single remote hydraulics, and adding an extra remote can be time consuming and expensive. Check to be sure that the steering system is in good working order, too.

These tractors were offered with a choice of a power-shift or manual transmission. I've owned both. If the power-shift is in good working order, it's nice to have. However, a power-shift transmission has more working parts than a manual and can be tricky to fix.

The Case 1070 is a very affordable tractor. Regular maintenance is uncomplicated, and parts are easy enough to find.
