The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) congratulates Dr. Trevor DeVries on winning the 2016 Canadian Society of Animal Science (CSAS) Animal Industries Award in Extension and Public Service. Dr. DeVries received his award at the CSAS Awards Banquet in Salt Lake City on Friday.
“We are happy to support CSAS and its commitment to animal science,” says Rick Bergmann, CPC Chair. “The Canadian pork sector recognizes the importance of research and animal science and its role in increasing the Canadian agriculture industry’s competitiveness. We congratulate Dr. DeVries on winning this award.”
Dr. DeVries is a Canada Research Chair in Dairy Cattle Behaviour and Welfare and an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Biosciences at the University of Guelph. His research over the years has focused on dairy cow feeding behaviour and ruminant nutrition. He currently teaches and leads a highly-productive research program focused on the areas of dairy cattle nutrition, management, behaviour and welfare.
The CSAS Animal Industries Award in Extension and Public Service is awarded to CSAS members to recognise outstanding service to the animal industries of Canada in technology transfer, leadership and education in animal production. The recipient of the award may be employed in any sector of the Canadian animal industry. Their contribution to advancement of education and technology transfer in animal agriculture in Canada must have been outstanding and sustained over time and must be distinct from those of research.
The CPC co-sponsors the award with the Chicken Farmers of Canada and the Dairy Farmers of Canada.
