Video: Cotton Country Struggling, Seeking Government Help

Last spring, farmers reported planting 8.5 million acres of cotton, which – with the exception of one Farm Crisis year - was the smallest amount of land dedicated to the crop in nearly 150 years. If current trends continue, U.S. farmers could plant fewer acres to cotton in the spring than at any point since the Civil War.
