Summer 2016

change the power of the lens you are looking through!

Many industries share same challenges as agriculture relating to technology innovation and adoption.  For example, we struggle with deriving useful, practical knowledge from the inundation of data streaming in from machinery and field sensors, weather, soil, and chemistry data, and real-time feedback from field operations.  And we hear that Big Data could be the answer.  We have various systems providing data and repositories storing it and we spend a lot of time managing and massaging it to get the information we need when and how we need it.  And we see that standardizing our data collection methods, platforms, and data could be the answer.  We have sales people and technology/industry experts showing us all manner of solutions aimed at making our jobs easier and more efficient and our lands more productive and profitable.  And we wonder which of them are merely solutions in search of problems and which of them could be the answer. At the InfoAg Conference 2016, in the closing keynote on Thursday, August 4th, I will address key points in agriculture technology that, I have heard over and over again from farmers, agronomists, precision specialists and ag retailers, and put some framework around them. What I challenge you is how do you define the problem you are trying to solve AND how are you approaching to move towards a solution? Are you using yesterday's technology and hoping for a difference result?

If you are going to be at InfoAg send me an email and hopefully we can connect there! I will be joined by Dave Lundberg, Jim Pollock and Dale Steele at the conference. Dave and Jim will be moderating a few of the panels.

In the weeks following InfoAg I have the opportunity to tour some farms in Europe and then Australia where I will be speaking a the 19th Precision Agriculture Symposium put on by the Society of Precision Agriculture Australia.

If you would like to discuss topics in my presentation at the InfoAg Conference "There Be Dragons: Why AgTech Needs to Partner With Big Tech [Dell, GE, IBM, Bosch and Verizon] … Now!", this newsletter, or the upcoming PresionAg Vision Conference I am co-chairing in October (see below) please send me a email.
