Dale Steele P.Ag. Partners with AAFC on Study of Precision Ag Technology Adoption in Western Canada

Announcement: Dale Steele P.Ag. will be conducting reseach on‎ Analysis of Precision Agriculture uptake in western Canada and key barriers to adoption.‎ This research initiative has been commissioned by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC).

The goal of this research is to determine the various levels of adoption for precision agriculture technologies throughout the prairies, how Canadian producers compare with key competitors in similar jurisdictions, and the various factors that create barriers to adoption. It will gather insights from crop sector stakeholders regarding their practical experiences with on-farm adoption of innovation in general, including what has worked and what has not, as well as the motivations for technology adoption and the educational and business support networks available.  The results of this research will be used to better understand the state of play of precision agriculture in the western Canadian crop sector and identify key challenges  that need to be overcome to boost innovation and competitiveness in the sector.

Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada has recently commissioned this western Canada study and the timelines were just released. 

Timelines:

·       November – December 2016: Dialog with leading precision agriculture stakeholders

·       January - February 2017: Producer survey

·       March 2017: Expert panel and Summary

Background: Dale Steele P.Ag. has decades of agriculture experience in western Canada and with six years of work experience in the precision agriculture sector. 

His experiences includes operating his own farm, introducing new ag chem products and seed varieties to farmers, building precision ag & VRT services, agronomic consulting, precision agronomist, National Research Council funded research projects,  remote sensing agronomist, delivery of international precision ag services, consulting on cloud services development and convergence of precision ag technologies.  As an ag communicator, he is also a member of the Alberta Farm Writers and the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists.
