Center pivots have sprinklers located along its entire length. The spacing of the sprinkler heads can vary with distance from the pivot point. The area covered by a sprinkler increases the farther it is away from the pivot point, thus nozzle sizes increase also. Uniformity of water application can be affected if the sprinkler heads are damage, have the wrong nozzle size or there are leaks. In this video, Dr. Tom Scherer, North Dakota State University Extension Agriculture Engineer, will show how to do a sprinkler uniformity test of a typical center pivot using a single line of catch cans and how to collect as well as analyze the data.
