2017 Corn And Soybean Field Guide Now Available From Purdue Extension

The 2017 edition of Purdue Extension’s Corn and Soybean Field Guide is now available through Extension’s The Education Store.

This year, the corn and soybean production sections were revised and new soybean development photos were added, said Corey Gerber, director of Purdue’s Crop Diagnostic Training and Research Center (DTC) and lead author of the guide.

The publication covers most of the common issues grain producers face year to year.

“It is a great tool to keep in the truck or tractor, especially when scouting throughout the growing season,” said Braden Carpenter, DTC assistant director and co-author of the field guide. “Not only is it packed with the latest information on common field issues, but it also provides many photos that can help growers accurately diagnose problems they see in their fields and furthermore feel confident in what steps to take in the management of those problems.”

The pocket-size in-field reference guide is updated annually with detailed information for corn and soybean producers. It offers tools for identifying and managing insects, plant disease and weeds. It also contains information on herbicide injury, soil fertility, planting decisions, and crop growth.

“This field guide has been a staple of Purdue Extension's outreach to the American farmer and will continue to do so in 2017," Carpenter said.
