Alberta Cattle Industry Market Report

Alberta direct cattle sales so far this week saw bids ease from Wednesday to Thursday. Weakness in the US cash market took the wind out of the sails of our local fed market as dressed sales were reported as much as 9.00 lower than last week.  Competition in the cash market was limited as packer have a lot of cattle around them right now. One plant was buying cattle for the middle of September delivery while the other was scheduling cattle for the beginning of October delivery.

US Trade

In the US, scattered trade developed yesterday in the North with dressed sales reported from 178.00-180.00 which is 4.00 lower than Wednesday's trade. Over 1,000 head of cattle also traded in Nebraska at 113.00 on a live basis which is 4.50 lower than last week's weighted average price.

Canadian Dollar

The nearby Canadian dollar at 8:30 this morning was trading at 77.84, up 0.49.
