Alberta Pork Helps Producers Convert and Conserve

Alberta Pork is involved in two projects that will benefit a number of producers in the months ahead.

With the revised Code of Practice now in effect, The National Sow Housing Conversion Project (NSHCP) will help producers develop a personalized barn plan for implementing group sow housing and provide assistance in seeking supplemental funding towards infrastructure costs for the conversion.

Are you thinking of converting your barn to a group housing system? The NSHCP can help you make the best choice for your barn.

What the NSHCP can do for you:

•   Provide detailed advice about the group sow housing options that could work for your herd

•   Develop a personalized barn plan illustrating the layout options for implementing group sow housing within your existing barn footprint and sow herd size, or with
    barn expansion.

•   Provide assistance in seeking supplemental funding to assist in infrastructure costs for the conversion.

The specifics: The NSHCP is looking for producers in Alberta or Saskatchewan who are planning to convert their barn to group housing, but have not yet begun the process. They will be documenting the conversion process and sharing the information with other producers.
