Harvest continues to progress across Southwest Oklahoma and Central Oklahoma even though producers in some places have been getting late starts due to light showers and high humidity. Combines have been rolling as far North as Kremlin, with a few loads of wheat taken in at Pond Creek and Hunter yesterday.
The Oklahoma Wheat Commission is calling harvest to be 15 percent complete as of Wednesday afternoon, June 12th. Protein reports are lower than last year, but are still higher on the harvested wheat than what was previously predicted. Producers who put later fertilizer applications and split fertilizer applications are seeing higher protein numbers. Protein reports have ranged from 9.5 to as high as 13 percent depending on location and management practices. As of today statewide protein averages across the state are ranging from 10.5 to 11.5 percent for the most part.
Light rains swept across North Central Oklahoma last night with heavier showers reported out by Waynoka Fairview and Okeene. Light showers have also been reported across many parts of Southwest Oklahoma early this morning, with most places reporting 2/10ths to 5/10ths of moisture depending on location. If we can dodge rains this afternoon, a lot of locations are hopeful combines will be moving again from the Oklahoma/Texas border to the Oklahoma/Kansas border. Producers have been fighting mud across the state and hope to dodge future predicted rains for tonight and later this weekend.
Altus-Harvest has progressed over the past week with 50 to 60 percent of the region harvested. Test weights reported at 59-60 lbs. per bushel. Yields reported from 35 to 55 bushels per acre, with an average yield in the low to mid 40’s.
Lone Wolf-Harvest in this region is reported 55% complete. Test weights are averaging 59 lbs. per bushel. Yields reported from 35 to 55 bushels per acre, with some coming in at the mid 60’s on a few places. If we miss predicted rains over the next few days, harvest in this region could be complete for the most part by Monday. It is also important to note while the yields in this area have been extremely favorable, a faster harvest is also being reported due to lack of wheat acres in the region that have been planted to other crops.
Frederick-As of today, they are reporting this area to be 60 to 65 percent harvested. Test weights have ranged all over the board from 58 to 64 lbs. per bushel. Currently it looks like the region will be coming in at a 60 lb. average for test weight on reports based from today. Yields on the wheat harvested have come in higher than projected for the region with many 40 bushel averages reported, with a few in the mid 50’s to 60’s.
Apache-Harvest just got a good start in this region yesterday. Light rains this morning will make it a later start before producers get into the fields today. Early test weights have ranged from 58 to 63 lbs. per bushel. Currently they are looking at a 60 lb. test weight as of today. Early yield reports were showing mid 50 to mid 60 bushel averages.
Hinton-Wheat was just taken in at this location starting yesterday. Light rains early this morning will also keep producers from getting an early start today. Test weights on early cuttings ranged from 56 lbs. per bushel to 63.5 lbs. per bushel averaging 59 to 60 lbs. per bushel. Not many yields have been reported. One yield report for the region came in at 41 bushels per acre.
Clinton-They just started taking wheat in Clinton yesterday. Test weights are ranging from 60 to 62 lbs. per bushel on early cuttings. No yields were yet reported for this region.
Okarche-Harvest continued to move in this region, with heavier rains early this morning East of town. Early reports show test weights ranging from 57 to 59 lbs. per bushel. Yields in the region on early cuttings are being reported in the low 40’s.
Kingfisher-Harvest has been moving ahead despite off and on rains. Test weights ranging from 58 to 63 lbs. per bushel. Yields have been ranging from 40’s to low 50’s for the most part with some making in the mid 60’s to low 70’s.
Omega- Harvest has been moving ahead despite off and on rains. Test weights ranging from 59 to 64 lbs. per bushel, with an average currently at 61 lbs. per bushel. The yield from early reports are ranging in the low 40’s with also higher yields being reported in the mid 50’s.
