Business Opportunity Program

The Business Opportunity Program is another one of the Growing Forward 2 (GF 2) agri-business programs that recently underwent minor changes to its terms and conditions, and also to its eligible applicants and activities. “These changes will not significantly impact applicants, but we wanted people to be aware of them,” says Stephanie Kosinski, grant specialist with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry.

The Business Opportunity Program was designed to help Alberta’s producers, agri-processors, and agricultural organizations enhance their competitiveness and growth prospects by connecting them to expert business advice. “The goal of this program is to help eligible applicants access expertise to assess the viability of entering the agriculture and food industry, or new business opportunities such as expansion and diversification,” says Kosinski.

Eligible expenses include things such as business plans, feasibility studies, market research and marketing plans, succession plans, and business structure development and business management coaching sessions related to assessing the viability of entering the agriculture and food industry, or new business opportunities, such as expansion and diversification.
