On Tuesday, the entire country will celebrate the hard work of members of the agricultural industry with Canada’s Agriculture Day.

The celebration “is a time to showcase all of the amazing things happening in our industry and create a closer connection with consumers about where their food comes from and the people who produce it,” according to Agriculture More Than Ever, the organization that developed the event.

Producers and industry partners can use the opportunity to “create connections with people outside of agriculture to earn trust,” Candace Hill, manager of Agriculture More Than Ever, said in the February edition of Better Farming. They can “educate the public and … join a community of people across the agricultural industry.”

Individuals – both producers and consumers – can join the conversation on social media platforms on Feb. 13 with the hashtag #CdnAgDay.

In honour of the occasion, groups and organizations across Canada will host events, including:

  • Mini trade show at Helen Tulk elementary school (Newfoundland & Labrador)
  • Western Kings 4-H book drive (Nova Scotia)
  • Homestead Organics tours (Ontario)
  • Canada’s Ag Day kitchen party (Saskatchewan)
  • Safety workshop for farming and ranching women (Saskatchewan)
  • The Game of FARM Life (Alberta)
  • Family AGtivity Day in Wetaskiwin (Alberta)
  • LOVE Agriculture Week hosted by EcoDairy (British Columbia)

In addition to these events, Agriculture More Than Ever will hold an event in Ottawa, featuring guest speakers such as Bob McDonald (host of CBC’s Quirks & Quarks), the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay (Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada), Michael Hoffort (president and CEO of Farm Credit Canada) and Ron Bonnett (president of the Canadian Federation of agriculture).

Individuals can register for this event here.
