CFA President Welcomes New Interprovincial Trade Deal

Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) President Ron Bonnett said in the past, there were often more trade barriers between provinces than there would be between Canada and other countries.

He was responding to the newly announced Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA), which is meant to solve some of these problems.

"I think the big one that will jump out from an agricultural perspective, would be regulations around trucking," commented Bonnett. "That's everything from tire size to axle spreads so your not having to do changes every time you cross a provincial boundary."

Bonnett notes other sectors that will benefit will be construction and clean energy technology, which would be of particular interest to the agriculture industry.
