CleanFARMS Now Accepting Ag Plastics

CleanFARMS is conducting a pilot project with the goal of keeping agricultural plastics out of Manitoba landfills.

Seven locations across the province will be accepting film, twine, and grain bags until March 28th, with another collection period scheduled for this fall.

Project Manager Shane Hedderson says there's plenty of material out there.

"Our most recent study that CleanFarms undertook in 2011, it was determined that there was approximately 6,000 tonnes of ag plastic waste generated on farms all across Manitoba every year," he said. "The majority of that was grain bags, bale and silage wrap and plastic twine. As we have seen from other numbers that number seems to be growing every year."

Hedderson notes the sites will not be accepting nylon rope/twine or netting.
