Cow-Calfenomics 2015

Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF), along with industry partners, will once again be offering the Cow-Calfenomics series this fall.

Cow-Calfenomics is an information session designed for Alberta’s beef producers. The series focuses on enhancing farm business management knowledge and demonstrating tools available to enhance decision-making skills. This year’s session’s theme is Managing for the Long Run.

“This series brings a lot of information, ideas, and opportunities for producers to add to their management ‘tool kit’ and to make better choices based on better information,” says Abby Verstraete, farm business analyst, AF, Edmonton. “Equally important is the chance for producers to engage and interact with peers, helping turn information into action.

“We are also happy to announce that Alberta Beef Producers, recognizing the importance of engaging our youth into the industry, is sponsoring the registration for those producers who are 25 years of age or younger.”

Topics this year will include:
  1. What is Social Licence? – Sustainability of the Cattle Industry

  2. Time to Beef up the Herd? – Marketing Outlook

  3. Grazing the Bottom Line? – Economic Grazing Solutions

  4. Have you Considered Leasing? – Financial Considerations for Cows and Pasture

  5. Are you Covered? Human Resource Strategies

  6. What does your Neighbor Think? – A Beef Producer’s Perspectives
“This year we have a great lineup of speakers to discuss trending farm business topics in the cattle industry,” says Verstraete. “A presentation that is always well received – the Marketing Outlook – will be delivered by CanFax’s Senior Analyst, Brian Perillat. We are very excited to have Brian out, and to hear what he has to say about economic future of this industry.”
  1. Cow-Calfenomics will be held across the province in four different locations:

  2. November 3, 2015 – Vermilion, Vermilion Regional Centre

  3. November 4, 2015 – Westlock, Hazel Bluff Community Hall

  4. November 5, 2015 – Olds, Student Alumni Centre at Olds
