Crops Continue To Advance

Crops are progressing quickly across the province.

The warmer temperatures benefited all crops, particularly the warm season crops including corn, soybeans and sunflowers.

Manitoba Agriculture's Pam de Roquigny says combines are starting to roll in some fields of winter wheat and perennial rye grass.

She notes this could provide a sneak peak as to what other crops might yield.

De Roquigny adds the recent wet conditions are creating some disease issues for producers.

"We're starting to hear some reports of blackleg lesions and sclerotinia in canola," she said. "In our soybeans we're starting to hear bacterial leaf blight and of course in our winter wheat and our spring wheat crops we're starting to see symptoms of fusarium head blight as well."
