Dairy Farmers Of Canada Taking Proaction

Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) have approved the validation criteria for four more modules in their proAction intiative.

Last week Tuesday and Wednesday was DFC's annual general meeting, in which they voted on the animal care, traceability, biosecurity, and environment components of the proAction project. ProAction is an intiative aimed to show consumers the work, care, and quality that dairy farmers put into their product.

"Dairy farmers have a high degree of respect -- I think farmers in general have a high degree of respect from the public, in terms of ethics, our integrity, our honesty, and transparency," says DFC president, Wally Smith. "We want to make sure that we hold steadfast to that, that the public has a trust in Canadian farmers. So they know the food they consume is not only assumed to be what it's said to be, but that they know if necessary, they can actually go back and find out, whether it be from the CFIA (Canadia Food Inspection Agency)... or the DFC itself, that we're actually doing what we say we do.
