Economic Partnership Launches Food Processing Development Initiative

Sarnia-Lambton, Ontario – The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership will begin a food processing development initiative to attract food processors to the area. The project will develop detailed business cases and marketing materials highlighting Sarnia-Lambton to target key food processing sectors.

With support from Bioindustrial Innovation Canada and local agricultural organizations, the project will create awareness of Sarnia-Lambton as a potential destination for food processors. They hope to attract one or more food processing facilities to the area.

Over the next two years, the Partnership will focus its attention on export-oriented processors who may want to take advantage of Sarnia-Lambton’s border location, food processing related facility relocations that may utilize brown field opportunities, and processed foods and industrial ingredients manufacturers.

The project was initiated to take advantage of the strong local agriculture industry with the aim of diversifying Sarnia-Lambton’s economy and job-base. If successful, the initiative will lead to an increase of local food processing facilities, potential value-chain opportunities for local agricultural producers, and create employment opportunities within the industry.

This project is funded in part through Growing Forward 2 (GF2), a federal-provincial-territorial initiative. The Agricultural Adaptation Council assists in the delivery of GF2 in Ontario.
