Ensuring Maximum Yields on Cash Crops: Is Precision Agriculture the Answer?

Ontario farmers to have access to a diverse pool of precision agriculture experts

With volatile commodity prices farmers are looking for ways to ensure maximum yields on their cash crops.  Maybe you are considering implementing some of the new techniques associated with precision agriculture, but are feeling somewhat intimidated.

Perhaps you have had the following thoughts:  “It would be great to have access to a number of precision agriculture experts, and fellow farmers who are also considering implementing or have already implemented these techniques.” Or “It wold be great to be able to talk to some of the precision agriculture suppliers.”  If so, then mark February 25 & 26 on your calendar for the 2015 Farms.com Precision Agriculture Conference at the Best Western Lamplighter Inn, in London, Ontario.

The conference will feature a number of precision agriculture experts, such as Dave Scott, senior account manager with Geosys.  Dave grew up on a cattle and grain farm in southern Iowa.   As a former farmer, Dave is passionate about introducing relevant information to farmers about what their operations should implement to improve agronomics on their farming operations.  He understands the realities of farming, not just the theory of precision agriculture.

Darryl Lacey, is a precision farming specialist from Delta Power Equipment. Darryl will provide an overview on the successes and lessons learned integrating the CASE IH AFS on farming operations.  Precision agriculture experts from a number of farm equipment companies will be on hand to ensure that no matter what equipment farmers are using, they will be able to chat with experts to ensure they can maximize the potential of precision agriculture.

Unbiased college and government experts will also be on hand.

Mike Duncan is the NSERC precision agriculture chair at Niagara College.  Doug Aspinall is senior soil scientist at OMAFRA.  Nicole Rabe is the land resource specialist at OMAFRA; Mike will provide an overview of new Ontario software systems and the yield potential index to begin building management zones in your fields. Nicole and Doug will present an overview on developing management zones, integrating yield, landscape and soil information.

Weather plays such a key role in any farm’s successes or challenges, Ian Nichols business manager at Weather Innovations, will show you how to factor weather into precision agriculture.

Network and hear from fellow farmers.  The Farmer Panel: “What Is Working and How Did I Do It?” Will give you the chance to hear three practical farmers’ present processes and their results.
