Feed Pea Benchmark

Prices for the main grain commodities across western Canada remained largely unchanged over the past two weeks with the exception of Manitoba, where corn values declined by $7/T and wheat values by $6/T. This is mainly due to the proximity and availability of lower priced US corn, made more competitive by the strengthening Canadian dollar.

Corn DDGS values remained unchanged except in Alberta, which saw a decrease of $10-15/T. Similarly, soybean and canola meal values remained mostly unchanged except in Manitoba, where canola meal increased by $10/T, and in Alberta where soybean meal values decreased by $25/T.

Feed grade peas and lentils continue to be scarce but when available are commanding a price of $240-250/T in Alberta and Saskatchewan.  Most pulses being used in feeds are now faba beans, with a trading range of $245-250 in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Faba beans in Manitoba are commanding a price of $270-275/T and are pricing themselves out of most diets.
