Getting Ready For Spring With Safety Tips.

Spring is just around the corner, meaning there’s no better time to refresh yourself with some John Deere safety tips to keep you and your family safe during the most active months for machinery owners.

Whether you’re a new John Deere equipment owner or you’ve been using it for years, safety should always be a priority.

John Deere Safety

Clothing Safety

Clothing may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of safety, but consider this – your shirts, shoes and pants are all susceptible to accidentally getting caught in the machinery you use.

To reduce the potential for an accident, you should always wear close-fitting clothing, long pants and closed-toe shoes while operating equipment. Utilizing globes with a non-slip grip is essential while operating portable power equipment. Finally, don’t forget about your ears – earmuffs for adequate soundproofing can protect your hearing while using machinery.

Landscaping Safety

Landscaping

Leveling your terrain for a smooth surface can reduce your chances of an accident while working. Mowing up and down a slope – rather than across – can also help you increase your level of safety.

However, the best way to prevent any accident is to assess the area you are landscaping before you begin – particularly hillsides. If you find that your John Deere equipment will be difficult to maneuver on this part of the land, don’t try it. Safety should always come first.

Mower Maintenance Safety

Maintenance

As you look to maintain your John Deere mower, remember to avoid running your engine while the machine is indoors. Furthermore, do not add fuel to a running engine. Instead, wait until you are outdoors and the engine is completely off for the utmost safety.

If you are going to service your mower, shut off the engine and disconnect the battery ground cable to temporarily cut the electricity.

Operation

It’s no secret that children like to imitate their parents, which is why you should always strive to set a good example by using John Deere safety tips. Additionally, you should regularly practice safe mowing skills when children are in the area.

If you are working outdoors, try to keep your pets and kids inside under adult supervision. Do not allow children to come near or operate John Deere machinery.

Inspection

You should always read the safety labels on your John Deere equipment before you begin working. Make time to read the operator’s manual as well to better understand the controls of your machinery.

As you inspect your equipment, remove any broken parts immediately and replace them before moving forward. Tighten all nuts, bolts, and screws to keep your items in working condition. When your equipment is not in use, cover it with guards and shields.
