MISSISSAUGA, ON, Canadians have become increasingly aware of the effectiveness of green gardening, and many are choosing eco-conscious and sustainable practices for their outdoor chores. A study released by Husqvarna Canada found that 61% of Canadians use at least one green gardening method such as composting or harvesting rainwater while completing yard work, and nearly half (46%) use environmentally-friendly tools on their properties.

"We're committed to providing innovative products and solutions for maintaining parks, gardens and forests- all while respecting nature and caring for people," says Michelle Sordi, director of marketing, Husqvarna Canada. "This report confirms the value Canadian customers place on environmental impact, and as a global manufacturer we know that the case for offering environmentally-friendly equipment to our professional and at-home users is strong."

Consumer brand support and purchasing decisions are increasingly influenced by companies' positioning on the environment and sustainability. Seventy per cent of survey respondents vocalized they are more likely to support companies that use environmentally-friendly equipment. Additionally, the majority (76%) of them believe companies should receive tax benefits for taking steps to be greener.

Survey respondents also recognized services that are based on a green model. When it comes to maintaining their homes, more than half (55%) of Canadians would prefer a landscaper that uses emissions-free equipment. Some (44%) would even be willing to pay a premium for a landscaper who uses quieter equipment.

These feelings go beyond personal property as public parks and green spaces are a concern as well. With 40% of Canadians visiting parks at least once per week, when it comes to park maintenance it's no surprise that 77% of them are looking for city officials to use emissions-free and environmentally-friendly equipment to reduce stress on the planet.

Survey Methodology

A survey of 1530 Canadians was completed online between July 18th to July 21st 2016 using Leger's online panel, LegerWeb. A probability sample of the same size would yield a margin of error of +/-2.5%, 19 times out of 20.
