I-29 Dairy Outreach Consortium: “Boots On The Farm” Heifer Growers Tour, Rohe Dairy Virtual Tour

By Tracey Erickson

Producers had the opportunity to see first-hand, excellent heifer growing facilities as part of the “Boots on the Farm” Heifer Growers Tour sponsored by the I-29 Dairy Outreach Consortium (consisting of SDSU, U of M, ISU, NDSU and UNL Extension Services; the Iowa State Dairy Association, South Dakota Dairy Producers Association, and the Southwest Minnesota Dairy Profit Group) on December 11, 2014 as part of their “Moo-University” education venue.

One of the stops over lunch included a virtual tour of Rohe Dairy, given by Michelle Rohe. Producers were able to see how Rohe Dairy had remodeled their facilities and successfully added a calving barn as a lien on their present barn. In addition, Michelle Rohe explained how they are successfully utilizing technology via application of their automatic calf feeders within their calf barn.
