Impact of Root Rots on Peas

Field pea is the largest acreage pulse crop in Alberta, and late season root rot can be a threat to sustainable pea production. Syama Chatterton, plant pathology research scientist with Agriculture Canada, takes a look at the impact of root rots.

To assess the prevalence and severity of the disease, pea fields across central and southern Alberta were surveyed in July of last year. Root rot symptoms were found in 143 of the 145 fields surveyed, with the highest incident in west central Alberta. The severity was the highest in east central Alberta.
