January Egg Production Up 2 Percent

United States egg production totaled 8.54 billion during January 2015, up 2 percent from last year. Production included 7.43 billion table eggs, and 1.11 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.03 billion were broiler-type and 86 million were egg-type. The total number of layers during January 2015 averaged 364 million, up 1 percent from last year. January egg production per 100 layers was 2,348 eggs, up 1 percent from January 2014.
        
All layers in the United States on February 1, 2015 totaled 362 million, up 1 percent from last year. The 362 million layers consisted of 305 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 53.9 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.57 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on February 1, 2015, averaged 74.9 eggs per 100 layers, unchanged from February 1, 2014.

Egg-Type Chicks Hatched Down 1 Percent

Egg-type chicks hatched during January 2015 totaled 43.7 million, down 1 percent from January 2014. Eggs in incubators totaled 40.3 million on February 1, 2015, down slightly from a year ago.

Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 270 thousand during January 2015, unchanged from January 2014.

Broiler-Type Chicks Hatched Up 3 Percent

Broiler-type chicks hatched during January 2015 totaled 792 million, up 3 percent from January 2014. Eggs in incubators totaled 643 million on February 1, 2015, up 2 percent from a year ago.

Leading breeders placed 6.96 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during January 2015, up 8 percent from January 2014.
