Juniors in Agriculture are the Future!

The Junior Beef EXPO is back at Western Fair District this weekend. The event is invaluable to the agricultural industry as it promotes youth involvement in the business of raising cattle.

Young people 21 years of age and under, and their families, will arrive in the District for the 16th annual Junior Beef Expo, March 25 & 26.   These young agricultural entrepreneurs will showcase hand-reared heifers and steers in a livestock judging contest over a two-day period. Participants, from as far East as the Ottawa Valley and many from counties across Ontario, showcase cattle with some eventually becoming local farmers working within the beef industry.

Youth participation in the expo climbs annually.  Over 190 kids and 280 head of cattle will take part in the 2017 event.  The experience is open to competitors 21 years of age and under as of January 1, 2017 and is a great opportunity for kids and young adults, to win scholarship prize money ($500 & $1,000) in the Steer and Heifer confirmation categories.

The Junior Beef Expo at Western Fair District strives to support all 4-H members and Junior Livestock enthusiasts by offering more activities for youth to participate in.  The event keeps young people interested and active in the agriculture industry, something that is imperative to the future of agriculture.
