A farm management specialist with Manitoba Agriculture is urging the importance of understanding your cost of production.
Roy Arnott says you have to know that cost per bushel.
He notes things are looking good heading into 2017.
"Well overall prices are a little bit stronger, fertilizer is a little bit cheaper. Chemicals have gone up in price, but overall the margins are looking a little better compared to 2016.
To help producers improve those margins, Manitoba Agriculture is offering a number of online tools to help make growers better business decisions.
Arnott says the calculator helps to avoid making emotional decisions.
"Anyone that's been trying to evaluate a damaged canola field knows that you're looking at a less than perfect field. None of us like to see a less than perfect field but the reality is depending on the stand and the date, that less than perfect field might give you a better economic return than pulling out the drill and reseeding."
