Manitoba hog farmers care deeply about the environment and have always worked hard to protect the land and water entrusted to us. For the past six years we have conveyed this message to the public with our spring environmental campaign, We are part of the solution. Our ads have appeared on the back of Winnipeg transit buses, in various print media and on the CTV evening news.
This year, the Manitoba government introduced amendments to modernize and streamline the legislation and regulations affecting the environmental rules for livestock. None of the proposed changes will lower environmental standards. Manitoba farmers will still follow the strictest environmental regulations in North America, providing the best protection for our waterways and land.
It is important for hog farmers to share these facts and the rest of our environmental story with our fellow Manitobans. To that end, readers of this Saturday’s Winnipeg Free Press and Brandon Sun will see a full page message from me, on behalf of Manitoba hog farmers, detailing the steps we take to protect our waterways and highlighting the value of our industry to the province.
